Rolfing SessionsSessions usually take about 60 minutes and are spaced a week or more apart. The first session is sometimes a little longer, as I take some time at the beginning to get to know you, your health history, and your goals for Rolfing (such as better balance, decreased pain, or increased flexibility). Sessions begin with a standing structural analysis where I look for patterns and areas of holding, assess function, and observe changes from session to session. The hands-on work is done on a massage table, as well as seated. Unlike many forms of manual therapy, the Rolfing process includes client participation: you will be asked to make certain movements to increase the effectiveness of the work. In addition to manual therapy, Rolfing includes movement education on moving your realigned body properly. Emotional issues may arise as your body changes; releasing old patterns and holdings.
What to Wear
Your comfort is of the utmost importance, so wear what you feel comfortable in. Here are some suggestions of what to wear for sessions:
Women - underwear or running shorts and a bra (sports or regular - with thinner straps being preferable to thicker), or a two-piece bathing suit. Men - underwear, running shorts, or a bathing suit. "September 2015.
I had Stephanie do a 10 series of Rolfing on me in the last year. I did not expect the incredible changes that it has brought about for me. When she first started it I was in constant pain in my feet and legs and up into my hip area. I had a job where I was on my feet all day. I had fallen hard onto my hip about 5 years ago. I had knee surgery about 2 years ago which left me with a lack of range of motion and a scar that would suddenly give me a stabbing pain that would then feel as if the nerves were being shocked. I often had to take Aleve or Ibuprophen to relieve the pain. After the first three sessions the lower leg and foot pain was completely gone. I no longer had to rub my feet and lower legs before getting up and no longer experienced constant pain when standing or walking. I could finally wear all my shoes again - pain free - and not just the one pair that I could tolerate. My knee scar stopped twanging me. After the next 4 sessions my hip pain had disappeared and I didn’t have to think carefully how I was going to get up from sitting down and how much the first 4-5 steps were going to hurt me. The pain and numbing I experienced sitting in cars has also disappeared. I am so grateful to Stephanie for her knowledge and generosity in sharing this skill which has made my life so much better. I would recommend Rolfing to everyone. It was a great experience." ~P.Brown |
